Young Carthage and Rome.

apparently I love little Rome a lot. (I like when he's older too : P but it's cooler when we can remember that he wasn't always bug and all powerful)

It is funny how so many would say something like "Carthage was brave enough to challenge Rome" When, in fact, back then Rome was the challenger.

Of course he has a lot of land, but still, Carthage was bigger, richer. (good enough that he was no longer backed by Phoenicia, since by that time, they would have become part of Greece)

So I've always pictures Carthage as this slightly older boy. Well taught in the ways of merchant and Phoenician(i.e. sailors and explorer). He's quite adventurous as well, and most likely has a love for sailing. It's kind of weird to me how Phoenicians doesn't go too far in land. They cling to the shore. May be they like beaches or something. Iberia was probably the widest landmass they ever own. Of course, not for long, since Rome came running in and kicked him out (after getting kick in the ass several times, but Rome just doesn't know how to give up)

I think that was how he won. He never surrender and never give up. Sounding very much like a good main character. Yes, the bad guy can beat you up to pulp, but when you get up and manage to smack him back even one, you win.

Well, it's also because Carthage doesn't have people. The army were made up of hired mercenaries. (their army are very entertaining to study, I love it). The city is right next to the sea.

But these guys also rise from their sick bed really fast. Yes, they surrender, yes they lose. But in no time they were up and running. This is probably the most quoted reason that Rome jump at the chance to attack and eliminate Carthage for good. He was afraid. He managed to win 2 times, but if he let Carthage get back up again, the third war might not turn out so well. So...yeah. one has to disappear.

I wonder, had Hannibal got his support, would he sack Rome, and would Rome survive. Or maybe they'd take Rome as colony.

This is so fun just to try and imagine.

Thanks guys!
